La Retraite Jersey Dental Care
Technology
The availability of technology to enhance our lives is apparent everyday.
It is no different with dentistry. Advances can revolutionise the comfort of our patients and enhance treatment outcomes.
At La Retraite, we are proud of our commitment to ensuring that our patients can benefit from contemporary equipment and technology:
Here are some examples of how we apply this:
Detailed and close up photographs are invaluable for the dental team to help you understand what we can see and allow you to make informed decisions. We have dedicated photographic systems to enable this.
These allow us to acquire excellent intra-oral X-ray images without the dentist needing to leave the area. It is quicker and more efficient, which increases your comfort and you have the added reassurance that the dentist will be with you for support throughout the procedure.
Pictures speak a thousand words and animations go far beyond this! We can show you and explain concepts and treatment options using amazing imagery so you can immediately understand and feel empowered to be in control of your oral health.
This is essentially a 3-dimensional X-ray image. 3-D images can yield a huge amount of detailed information and can be extremely useful for diagnosis and treatment planning – particularly in cases where 2-D images have limitations. We have used this technology since 2012 – ensuring continual investment to keep pace with the evolution of these systems and software. This gives you the convenience of advanced imaging, in-house, without the inconvenience of referral.
We have used digitised oral scans for many years. A very small camera head is passed over your teeth and gums to obtain a high resolution 3-D colour virtual image of your mouth. This can then be instantaneously sent as a digital file to our off-island laboratory to enable them to accurately craft restorations to your needs.
Historically, when laboratory made restorations such as crowns and bridges were required, a mould of your mouth was obtained using soft impression material supported in an impression tray. Many patients found this difficult to tolerate. Today, in most situations, we have the additional option of a digital workflow to improve your comfort.
Matching the colour and shade of restorations such as veneers, crowns and bridges to adjacent teeth has always been something of an art form. Results could be affected by factors as diverse as ambient light levels and whether the patient was wearing makeup!
Our Swiss made digital shade analyser removes the subjectivity from this process and records a precise digital colour map of your teeth. This assists our laboratory to formulate a tailored colour recipe on a tooth by tooth basis to ensure that your new restoration has optimal aesthetics and harmonises with your smile.
