Meet The Team
Derik’s 30 years’ plus experience in caring for patients makes him a leading practitioner. He has significant expertise in implants, advanced restorative procedures and cosmetic dentistry.
Derik has trained with world class academics including Mike Wise and Pascal Magne. He constantly keeps up to date with best practice and new techniques from the UK, Europe and the US to ensure La Retraite Jersey Dental Care is always at the forefront of implants, cosmetic and restorative treatments.
During his free time, he enjoys rowing, gym training and flying.
Cliff is an experienced general dental practitioner with a particular passion for restorative and aesthetic dentistry, which he has developed over his extensive career of more than 40 years.
His calm, helpful approach and sensible, precise treatment planning ensure that patients are guided through every treatment step to achieve and maintain optimum oral health.
Cliff graduated from the University of Stellenbosch and owned a successful private dental practice in South Africa for over thirty years. In 2015, he and his family relocated to the UK, where he continued working in private practice dentistry.
In 2020, Cliff and his family moved to Jersey. He joined the La Retraite Jersey Dental Care team, where he contributes to innovative technologies through his creativity and the knowledge he has gained by working closely with internationally recognised dental specialists.
James has very much enjoyed getting to know his patients and working with the friendly team at La Retraite Jersey Dental Care since 2022.
James started his career as a vet. He then transferred to dentistry and graduated with honours and distinction in clinical dentistry from the University of Birmingham. He was also awarded seven prizes across different disciplines, including the Carlton Gold Medal for most outstanding student. He subsequently worked in Warwickshire before being irresistibly drawn to the charms of island life.
The aesthetic side of dentistry can really shine if oral health is optimal and the benefits to wider health should not be underestimated. James is a firm believer in this aspect of preventive care and he considers himself fortunate to be working in an era with access to so many gentle techniques and outstanding biomaterials to help patients achieve their wishes.
As our dental hygienist and therapist in the La Retraite Jersey Dental Care team, Yasmin helps our patients to prevent and manage periodontal (gum) disease and tooth decay.
Yasmin carries out a range of procedures such as scaling and polishing (under local anaesthetic where necessary) and fissure sealants.
Yasmin trained at and graduated from the Glasgow Dental Hospital and School with a BSc Oral Health Science Degree. During her studies she was granted the Excellence in Clinical Practice award, sponsored by BSDHT achieving the highest mark within her cohort during the final year of study.
Yasmin’s aim is to promote positive dental experiences for patients who attend La Retraite Jersey Dental Care clinic, especially those who are dentally anxious, by making them feel as comfortable as possible through her friendly nature. She has a genuine interest in giving advice and support to patients to maintain optimal oral health.
Our dental hygienist Pola has a mission to deliver the best care for patients. Her compassionate approach and sense of humour helps patients with dental anxiety feel at ease, and witnessing the positive impact on patients brings her immense satisfaction. Pola’s goal is to continue delivering top-quality care and making significant contributions to the field of dentistry.
Pola’s interest in dentistry began at a young age, inspired by her mother’s work in her dental laboratory. After graduating from dental technology medical school in Krakow in 2006, she relocated to Jersey to further her career.
With five years of valuable experience gained in a busy dental laboratory, she decided to expand her skills and secured a position in a highly qualified dental team, where continued to enhance expertise. Upon obtaining a diploma in dental hygiene and nursing, she successfully transitioned into a career in dental hygiene.
