As knowledge has advanced it has been recognised that the traditional “quick scale and polish” did not have a significant benefit to gum health. Our dental hygiene services have evolved to reflect this.
Plaque at the level of the gums is the main factor in causing gum inflammation, gum disease and potentially tooth loss. It can also significantly shorten the lifespan of fillings, crowns, bridges, veneers and implants.
Effective removal of this plaque takes care, focus and time. Most importantly, equipping you with the skills to maintain this situation at home is also a major part of our hygienists’ skillset.
In addition to professional plaque removal, our friendly hygienists will put you at ease, address your concerns and help you develop structure to your home care programme. Brushing technique and interdental cleaning are a core part of this.
There is close cooperation between all of our dental professionals in the practice. If your gum treatment needs are more complex, the dentists and hygienists will liaise to objectively quantify your disease risk and severity and recommend suitable strategies to manage it.
